Abstract

Objective To explore the effect of application of lidocaine hydrochloride mucilage to patients with general anesthesia in preoperative catheterization on the restlessness in postoperative recovery. Methods Sixty patients with general anesthesia for surgery, 42 male and 18 female, aged 15-78, were randomly divided into control group (paraffin oil) and treatment group (lidocaine mucilage), with 30 cases in each group. All patients were placed urinary catheters after anesthesia induction. Blood pressure, heart rate and occurrence of restlessness of the patients before and after catheterization and in postoperative recovery were evaluated. Results In the treatment group, blood pressure and heart rate of the patients were more stable, occurrence of the discomfort related to catheter is lower than in the control group (P<0.01). Conclusion The application of lidocaine hydrochloride mucilage in preoperative catheterization could significantly reduce the urinary tract irritation and restlessness of patient, make the blood pressure and heart rate more stable, and the recovery safer.
