Abstract

Objective To investigate and compare the imaging features and diagnostic value of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) and contrast-enhanced MRI in extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (EHCC). Methods The clinical data of 78 patients with EHCC confirmed by operation in our hospital between February 2014 and February 2016 were analyzed retrospectively. All patients underwent CEUS and contrast-enhanced MRI examination. The imaging features and the accuracy rates of examinations were analyzed. Results There was no significant difference in the level of enhancement in arterial phase between the two groups (P>0.05). The probabilities of low enhancement in portal vein phase and delay phase displayed by CEUS (91.03%, 100.0%) were higher than those of MRI (10.26%, 8.97%) (P<0.05). There were no significant differences between CEUS and MRI in inhomogeneous enhancement at peak value and the accuracy of detection (P >0.05). Conclusion The findings of CEUS and contrast-enhanced MRI are characteristic in the diagnosis of EHCC. CEUS can be used as a useful supplement to MRI diagnosis, further improving the diagnostic accuracy.
