Actinomycosis of the Paranasal Sinus: Case Report and Literature Review

Abstract

Objective To improve the awareness of actinomycosis of the paranasal sinus. Methods One case of actinomycosis of the paranasal sinus was reported and 22 cases of actinomycosis of the paranasal sinus reported in the literature were reviewed. Results The patient was cured by antibiotic combined with surgery. No recurrence happened in the period of following-up with 1 year. Conclusion Actinomycosis of the paranasal sinus is a rare infectious disease. Actinomycosis of the paranasal sinus is easily misdiagnosed,because of the atypical clinical features and imaging findings. Diagnosis depends on bacterial culture or pathology.A combination of surgery and antibiotics is recommended.
